So what is Saké, really?

Let’s clear this up—sake (pronounced Sa Kay) isn’t rice wine, beer, or a spirit. It’s in a category of its own, with a history that stretches back over 1,000 years in Japan! No really, there are actual written records that show just how old rice fermented alcohol actual is!
Sake is made from just four key ingredients: rice, water, yeast, and koji mold. It’s brewed like beer, but the similarities pretty much stop there. The brewing process involves converting rice starch into sugars, which then ferment into alcohol, similar to how beer is made, but sake’s complexity and smoothness make it closer to wine in how it’s enjoyed.
It’s versatile, delicate, and packed with flavor, and it’s time we give sake the recognition it deserves—no comparisons needed! 😄
